How do I love thee?
Let me review these past 17 years...
I write this while sitting at the Chicago O'Hare Airport,
celebrating my 17th wedding anniversary - a tad lonely since my "groom" is miles away. So, I can't help but jot
down a few special "highlights" (using sports-announcing vernacular) that make me smile as well as eager to see
what the next 17 years (and the next...and the next...) have in store!
-I can still recall the goofy, proud, smug, excited
and nervous smile on your face when you stopped by my apartment after making that final down payment on my wedding ring. Too
bad I ruined the surprise and guessed you had the ring before you had the chance to propose.
-Of course, I still ruin
surprises each Christmas and birthday because I can guess my gift every time! (A little secret though, those times and gifts
are still treasured by me!)
-I'm proud of how two bumbling young adults have done OK in building a strong foundation
professionally and personally.
-Raising our son Garrett and sharing those private moments of love, excitement,
awkwardness, doubt and pure joy with you have made me truly the luckiest woman in the world.
So, to my husband, I lift
up my Styrofoam coffee cup and salute you, my friend, confidante, hero and love of my life. May we have many more smiles,
memories and exciting adventures ahead!
