Do what you love
1:10 pm cdt
In high school, I struggled determining my
major for college. (Heck, I still didn’t know what I wanted to do when “I grew up” well into my thirties.)
My school counselor asked me what I liked doing – my problem wasn’t that I couldn’t find my passion, it
was that I loved doing so many things! However, when I stopped to think of specific activities I enjoyed, I discovered I really
liked decorating our hallways during homecoming as well as planning for prom. This conversation led me to major in Art, but
after two years in this discipline, I realized the difference between being artistic compared to being creative. I also realized
I missed working with people in a variety of different settings.
You see, I LOVE meeting lots of new people, and I’ve always tried to attend as many events as
I could, including camps, contests etc. Connecting and networking with others is both my passion and my talent. I also found
out later in life that another term for “hallway decorating” is event planning in the career world. After having
attended a week-long Chamber conference, I can honestly say I have found my calling, mixing all of my many passions into the
one career path of Chamber work. I guess my counselor knew what she was talking about, after all!

Happy Anniversary, Baby!
9:26 am cdt
On June 6, Gerard and I celebrated our 15th
wedding anniversary. (Gerard likes to remind me this was D-Day thus we got married on the “Longest Day” - such
a funny guy.)
To celebrate the day,
there was dining, drinking, dancing, laughing, singing, and sharing. The only thing missing to make it the perfect anniversary
would have been to celebrate with my husband! Instead, I was in Madison for a conference – but I think I may have eaten
enough for the both of us.
glad I was able to attend a great Chamber conference, but I'm even happier to get back home to my boys.
Thanks, Gerard, for supporting my career as well
as being a loving husband and dad! Love you!
